A man in his late fifties has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon after a suspected gun factory was uncovered in Kingsclere, Hampshire. Twenty firearms, including four Glock pistols, nine shotguns, six long-barrelled firearms and a deactivated Bren machine gun, were seized during the raid on Tuesday by officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA). Also discovered were eleven imitation firearms, as well as a range of gun component parts.
Tests are currently being conducted to establish whether one of the Glocks and one of the shotguns were operational. NCA branch commander Chris Hill said the weapons posed a risk to the community: “They had the potential to cause devastation”. The seizures constitute a “very significant haul” and show that the NCA’s objective of “protecting the public from the threat of the criminal use of firearms” remains a crucial matter.
Philip Maylen, of Penny’s Hatch in Kingsclere, appeared at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Thursday. An AK-47, an MP40 sub-machine gun and nine revolvers also recovered at the address have yet to be examined. The NCA, meanwhile, will continue to work closely with national and international partners to combat the importation and criminal use of firearms.

Illegal firearms are a problem in many countries, with the Interport Police identifying that two-thirds of firearms involved in organised crime in Europe are imported from outside the continent
