Bad Boy Chiller Crew, the British rap trio best known for their high-energy bassline anthems, have filed a legal claim against their record label, House Anxiety, at the High Court, stating that they are owed around £400,000 in unpaid royalties. The group, who were shortlisted for the Best Group award at last year’s Brit Awards, was signed by House Anxiety in 2020, which also released their Full Wack No Breaks mixtape. The group claimed that they had no other option but to take legal action against the label.
In response to these allegations, House Anxiety rejected the claims and welcomed the opportunity to “clarify these inaccuracies”. According to Bad Boy Chiller Crew, they were supposed to receive royalty statements from the record label every six months but had only received their first one in October 2024. The statement had vast sums wrongly deducted and did not include £217,000 that House Anxiety had received in a licensing deal with a subsidiary of major label Sony.
Their legal claim also asserts that their contract with House Anxiety has ended. In June, they released a new single and an EP independently, but it was removed from Spotify after House Anxiety claimed it breached the contract.
In their statement regarding the legal proceedings, Bad Boy Chiller Crew said that they had no intention of going to court and that they were forced to take legal action because of the record label’s refusal to pay them royalties. They said that like other bands, they don’t look for litigation, but when faced with a label that won’t let them put their own music out themselves and not pay them royalties earned from their music, they felt they had no other option.
Full Wack No Breaks including the band’s breakthrough track “450” and their follow-up album Disrespectful reached number two on the UK album chart in 2022 under a licensing agreement with Sony’s Relentless label. The band also starred in a reality show on ITV2 in 2021
