A woman has come forward to claim that Thomas Plimmer, the former GP found guilty of having sex with multiple women in his surgery, attempted to choke her during sex. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, met Plimmer on a dating app in 2017. She claims that during sex on their second date, without her consent, he began “squeezing my throat”. Plimmer declined to comment, citing that he is currently appealing his striking off.
In a case brought forward by several women, the General Medical Council (GMC) and the Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust made the decision to strike Thomas Plimmer off. Evidence presented to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) showed that Plimmer had admitted to sending explicit content to colleagues, engaging in sexual conduct during working hours, and behaving inappropriately towards women. According to documents made available in 2023, Plimmer faced allegations from multiple women between May 2018 and February 2021. The GMC called him an “accomplished liar” when dealing with the women.
The woman who spoke to the BBC said that Plimmer took indecent photos of her without her consent during their second date. She stated that, as he pushed her against the wall, “he came in and he pushed me up against the wall and had his hand on my throat”, though he did apologise. During sex she claimed, “He was behind me and grabbed hold of my throat and started squeezing my throat, which again was not something that had been discussed or that I was comfortable with. So I was trying to dig my hand behind his hand and he did let go.” She also claims that Plimmer sent her explicit images of him having sex with other women.
The woman has complained to Plimmer’s former practice in Swindon. She also discovered that Plimmer had written an article about being a self-confessed sex addict. During the MPTS hearing, Plimmer admitted to having had sexual intercourse with colleagues while on duty and sending unsolicited intimate photographs, taken at work, to another woman. He was found to have threatened one of the women, telling another, “If one takes me to the GMC, I’ll slit her throat. I know where she lives”. The tribunal also found evidence that he had shown a colleague a video of himself having sex with another woman and had placed her hand on his groin without her consent, telling her, “I have something that would cheer you up.”
Plimmer has refused to comment on the allegations made by the woman who spoke to the BBC, stating that he is awaiting his appeal against being struck off by the GMC
