Prince William serves Christmas lunch at shelter he visited with Diana

Prince William served Christmas lunch at a homeless shelter where he first visited with his mother, Princess Diana, over 30 years ago. The Passage, a London-based homelessness charity, was the place where Prince William began to see beyond the palace walls. He has spoken about the profound impact that his visits to the charity had on him as a child.

This year, the Prince was amongst many volunteers who served Christmas lunch at the shelter. He chatted with attendees while serving them carrots and parsnips.

On Sunday, a video posted by Kensington Palace on their X account showed Prince William hugging the charity’s head chef, Claudette Hawkins. He was seen congratulating a client who had got engaged while wearing a Boston Celtics basketball team Christmas jumper.

Earlier this year, in an ITV documentary, Prince William described how his mother’s “inspiration and guidance” had motivated him to fight against homelessness. He recalled playing chess and chatting with people at the shelter on his first visit, when he was about 10 or 11 years old. In the documentary, he spoke about sometimes feeling guilty about not being able to do more to help those in need.

Prince William has continued visiting The Passage in his adult life, and he became its official patron in 2019. The Westminster-based charity provides assistance, friendship, and secure accommodation to London’s homeless people.
