Aussie Everton fan jets in for Goodison's last Merseyside derby

A teenage fan of Everton, who hails from Sydney, Australia, has spoken about how special it would be to watch his favorite team take on Liverpool in the final Premier League Merseyside derby at Goodison Park. Mackenzie, a 15-year-old boy, told his mother that he wished to attend the derby during the Blues’ last season at the famous old stadium. However, his mother, who was born in Liverpool, explained to him back in March that it would require some considerable expense which she did not have.

Mackenzie, undeterred, saved up his cash in the following months and eventually made a return trip to Liverpool. It came at a perfect time, as he managed to watch Everton triumph over his dad’s club Wolves with a 4-0 win as they maintained their spot in the Premier League. Speaking to reporters recently, Mackenzie expressed his excitement for the upcoming Liverpool game stating that he is sure it’s something special, and he cannot wait to see it.

The Blues have played at Goodison Park since 1892, but will move to their new 52,888-capacity stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock next season. The 15-year-old boy has been called a “lucky charm” by some after it emerged that he attended the game they won just after he arrived in the United Kingdom. It makes him optimistic about a win against rivals Liverpool.

When asked about the boy’s endeavors, Mackenzie’s mother affirmed that she is incredibly proud of her son. She was amazed that Mackenzie saved up the money for the trip and subsequently used his savings for the Everton derby game instead of investing the money in a personal car, which he could purchase with his savings. It is awe-inspiring to see how passionate Mackenzie is about Everton, the boyhood club of his mother, and to witness the lengths he went to be able to attend an Everton match in Liverpool, a long way from the comforts of his Sydney home
