New allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviour have been made against MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace. One woman claimed that he touched her bottom at an event, while another said that he pushed his crotch against her while filming a different show. Wallace stepped down from hosting MasterChef last week after a previous investigation exposed alleged sexual comments and inappropriate behaviour. His lawyers have dismissed the accusations.
One victim of alleged abuse, known as Lisa, stated that Wallace brushed past her with his waist and penis and said: “oooh you liked that didn’t you” during filming in a supermarket. She stated that she felt like she had to “get on with work”, but added: “It was slimy, disgusting. He just didn’t need to touch my body, it made me uncomfortable”. Production company Banijay UK, which owns Wallace’s former employer, Shine, found no evidence of the incident.
Anna, another alleged victim, said that Wallace was partially undressed when she visited his dressing room to adjust his bow tie. She reported the incident to staff but did not take it further at the time. A third woman, named Sarah, said that Wallace groped her in the lift after an event. Last week it was revealed that 13 people across five programmes had complained of inappropriate behaviour from Wallace, including Kirsty Wark.
Banijay UK is investigating the allegations. The BBC has removed its MasterChef Christmas specials from its schedules in the wake of the new claims. Three repeats of Inside the Factory will also be removed, but the current series of MasterChef: The Professionals will continue. Rupa Huq MP had said that the presence of MasterChef episodes could trigger memories for women alleging sexual misconduct. Wallace has apologised for his earlier remarks dismissing the original allegations
