According to a source from Buckingham Palace, Queen Camilla will be skipping certain portions of the Qatari state visit due to a chest infection. The source explained that the viral illness has been persistent and has significantly reduced her energy levels. Medical professionals have recommended that changes be made to the Queen’s schedule, leading to scaled-back attendance at some elements of the visit.
As a result of her condition, the 77-year-old monarch will not be present for the official arrival at Horse Guards Parade in London on Tuesday morning. It will mark the first state visit that Catherine will participate in following her cancer diagnosis in March. She will not be accompanying King Charles and the Prince and Princess of Wales on a carriage ride back to Buckingham Palace after the traditional formal welcome. Instead, she will take a break before rejoining the visitors for the state banquet on Tuesday.
Sources from the Palace emphasised that the Queen’s original cancer diagnosis in November has not changed, and that she simply requires additional rest and time to fully recover. The commitments associated with the state visit require considerable time standing or outside, making it difficult for the monarch given her condition.
In early November, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen was unwell with a chest infection and was advised to rest short-term by her doctors. As a result, she cancelled a variety of previously scheduled engagements, including the Remembrance Sunday ceremony.
