Kevin Sinfield kicks off epic 230-mile run in Liverpool for MND

Kevin Sinfield, a rugby player, launched his fifth annual fundraiser in honor of his friend and teammate Rob Burrow, who died this year due to motor neurone disease (MND). Sinfield will run over 230 miles during the week-long challenge in the United Kingdom, having already raised £10 million from the previous four annual challenges. He started this year’s fundraiser with Liverpool’s annual Santa Dash, where over 8,000 runners followed him along the city’s famous waterfront. Sinfield stated that he wishes to represent the Burrow family in the best way possible by performing this initiative to honour his late friend and the MND family.

Sinfield will be accompanied by members of the MND society to run its mile in the ‘Running Home for Christmas’ initiative, which will include visiting places like Wrexham, Gloucester, Belfast, and Glasgow. Sinfield will also run to Hull, Northampton, and Leicester, as well as Manchester United’s stadium to his Pennine Hills-based home on the final day.

The Prince of Wales, who awarded Sinfield and Burrow their CBEs in January at their former Leeds Rhinos base, congratulated Sinfield for this year’s initiative, calling it a suitable tribute. Sinfield commented that city officials had welcomed their arrival on previous occasions, and they hoped that this year would increase the awareness of combatting MND. Sinfield will be raising funds for six MND charities, including Darby Rimmer Foundation, established by ex-Liverpool defender Stephen Darby, who diagnosed with MND in 2018. Burrow retired in 2017 after helping his team win eight Super League Grand Finals and achieving 15 England and five Great Britain honors
