Kate sends emotional Christmas message of 'love, not fear'

The Princess of Wales has released a Christmas message ahead of her upcoming carol concert, calling for “love, not fear” this holiday season. She reflects on the importance of empathy and showing how much we need each other despite our differences. Her message will be sent to guests attending the Westminster Abbey concert on December 6th, as well as 15 other regional concerts throughout the UK.

According to the Princess, the meaning of Christmas is to “encourage us to turn to love, not fear”. Her letter reflects on the importance of supporting one another and praises those who care for others in need. This concert will also serve as the latest stage in the Princess’s return to public life after facing health struggles this year, including a cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment.

The service will include readings and music, with special guests such as the Prince of Wales and Richard E Grant, as well as participation from singers Gregory Porter and Paloma Faith. Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, who also received a cancer diagnosis this year, will be among those lighting candles. Guests will also be able to dedicate a decoration to someone who has supported them on a “kindness tree” outside the abbey.

In addition to the Westminster Abbey concert, there will be regional carol services over the next two weeks in various locations throughout the UK. The Princess’s message is unashamedly emotive, emphasizing the importance of love that listens with empathy, is kind and understanding, forgiving, and brings joy and hope. Overall, the focus is on reflecting on deeper connections and living our lives with an open heart
