The discovery of human remains believed to be from an infant was reported to police at approximately 1 pm on 9 December. The incident occurred in Little Hulton, Salford, specifically Ashtons Field near the M61 motorway. Local authorities have erected a cordon around the area, with emergency services directly present on the scene. One entrance to the Linnyshaw Loop line and Ashtons Field has been blocked off by local police forces.
Greater Manchester Police have yet to release any further details in regards to the possible cause of the infant’s death or the individual responsible for leaving the remains in Ashtons Field. The investigation is ongoing, and reports indicate that more information can be expected to follow in the next few days.
Members of the local community of Little Hulton have also shared their concern and shock in regards to the discovery of the infant’s remains. One resident stated they “can’t believe something like this could happen around here.” Another individual, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared their sadness at the loss of such a young life.
From those within the vicinity of Ashtons Field, there has been a growing call for local authorities to increase measures that tackle crime and provide extra support for those who need it. With the investigation ascertaining the identity and cause of death of the young child, many hope a sense of closure can be found for all those impacted by this tragedy
