Zoe Ball to leave BBC Radio 2 breakfast show with Scott Mills to replace

Radio presenter Zoe Ball has announced that she will be stepping down from her role as the host of Radio 2’s Breakfast Show in December. Ball had been presenting the programme for six years, but has decided to focus on her family and step away from the early morning starts. She will be staying with the station, and more details about her future role will be announced next year.

Ball revealed that her replacement will be Scott Mills, who will leave his current afternoon show slot to take over the breakfast programme. Ball’s final show will take place on December 20th, with Mills taking over the following week. Speaking about her decision on-air, Ball said she would miss her listeners and colleagues, but confirmed that she wouldn’t miss the early starts.

Mills, who has been a close friend of Ball’s for more than 25 years, said that he was “beyond excited” to be taking over from her, and praised her for the “incredible job” she had done in the role. Meanwhile, Trevor Nelson will replace Mills as the presenter of the afternoon show, and DJ Spoony and Sophie Ellis-Bextor will also be extending their shows.

Ball has a long history with BBC Radio, having begun co-hosting the Radio 1 Breakfast Show in 1997. She hosted the show solo from 1998 to 2000, making her the first woman to host the programme by herself. Her successor, Scott Mills, has won an industry award for his music entertainment show, which has led to high expectations for his new role as the host of Radio 2’s Breakfast Show
