Following reports of a welfare concern for a woman in Corby, Northamptonshire, police discovered a body in the boot of a car in Ilford, east London. Northamptonshire Police has since launched a murder investigation and police activity will continue in various locations, including Corby and Ilford.
The incident is being treated as suspicious and was believed to be a targeted attack. There is no wider risk to members of the public, according to Supt Steve Freeman, who also highlighted that extra patrols will be taking place in Corby in the coming days for reassurance purposes.
Detectives from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team and the Metropolitan Police have been working together to establish the circumstances that led to the woman’s death. Northamptonshire Police was first contacted by a concerned member of the public on 13 November regarding the welfare of the woman.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation
