The Voice: Prison officer Hollie 'felt like Hannah Montana'

Hollie Peabody, a prison officer from Oxfordshire, has returned to work at a category B men’s prison after making it to the semi-finals of ITV’s The Voice. During their four months on the show, Hollie caught the attention of Sir Tom Jones and made it to the semi-finals with a cover of Selena Gomez’s Lose You To Love Me. However, despite their success on The Voice, Hollie insists that their career in the prison service is their main priority, saying “This is my career, it will be what I do forever, full stop. I have no intention of leaving – I love it here.”

Reflecting on their time on the show, Hollie acknowledges that it felt like living two different lives at the same time. They explain, “while I was there it all felt a little bit Hannah Montana because you’re living two very different lives at the same time.” Nevertheless, Hollie is proud of what they’ve achieved, saying, “It was never about wanting fame and fortune. It was, ‘Can I stand on a stage and perform in front of people?’ I worked so hard on myself to get where I am that the fact it was able to culminate in doing something that big makes my heart happy. I’m so proud of myself.”

Hollie credits their job as a prison officer with giving them the confidence to pursue their passion for singing. They explain, “when I started working here, I used to really struggle with anxiety. I still do, but the support network that I’ve gained here has built my confidence to a point where I’m sort of running on the life motto of ‘what’s the worst that can happen?'” Hollie also reveals that they’ve already booked some gigs and that they’re looking forward to developing their career in music further.

Finally, Hollie reflects on their experience on The Voice, revealing that they were initially signed up to audition by their ex. Despite their lack of prior experience performing in public, Hollie impressed the judges with the “rare honesty” of their voice and made it all the way to the semi-finals. As they return to work in the prison service, Hollie is proud of what they’ve achieved and is excited about what the future holds
