Buckingham Palace has announced that the Princess of Wales will attend Remembrance events in London this weekend. She is set to attend both the Sunday service at the Cenotaph and the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening. The princess has been gradually returning to public royal duties after receiving cancer treatment.
The Queen’s attendance, however, will be subject to medical advice nearer the time as she had previously withdrawn from engagements due to a chest infection. The Palace has not confirmed her attendance yet.
This announcement comes after the Prince of Wales spoke about the past year being the “hardest year” of his life, following the diagnoses of both his wife and father’s cancer. “I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done,” he said.
Buckingham Palace announced in February that the King had cancer and would begin treatment. Shortly after, it was revealed that the Princess of Wales was undergoing chemotherapy after a cancer diagnosis. Since then, the King has resumed his public duties and the Princess of Wales has finished chemotherapy.
The Remembrance events will mark the first time that the Princess of Wales has carried out two consecutive days of public official engagements since the beginning of this year. In September, she released a video announcing that she had completed chemotherapy treatment and was “looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months”. The princess made her first public appearance after her cancer diagnosis at the annual Trooping the Colour parade in June, and later attended her first official work meeting since her treatment in the same month.
