Father and son sentenced over Birmingham hitwoman murder plot


A father and son from Derby have been sentenced to a total of 42 years for their role in a plot to murder the owner of a Birmingham shop. Mohammed Nazir, 30, was sentenced to 32 years for his role in the conspiracy to murder, while his father, Mohammed Aslam, 56, was given a prison term of 10 years. The pair had clashed with shop owner Mahumad Aslat and members of his family in 2018, with Aslam suffering brain injuries in the incident. In 2019, they recruited a hitwoman, US citizen Aimee Betro, to carry out a “deliberate and planned” revenge attack. Betro is currently in prison in Armenia, where she is the subject of an extradition request.

At Birmingham Crown Court, Nazir was found guilty of conspiracy to murder and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
