Security measures will reportedly be improved for Boardmasters, the annual music festival held in Newquay. Boardmasters announced on Facebook that it would be increasing security personnel by a fifth and adding more watchtowers for the event, which runs from 6 to 10 August. There will also be 25 more entry lanes and a larger number of high-visibility security patrols. Organisers of the event said there would be further updates on planned changes to next year’s festival facilities.
The announcement follows injuries suffered by seven people at the 2024 event, following a crowd surge during its opening night. The organisers said they would not be making any further comments beyond their social media announcement. The line-up for next year’s festival has yet to be made public. In addition to the increased security personnel and watchtowers, organisers also announced 50 buses for park and ride and changes to camping facilities, including a new “chilled zone” with a noise curfew of 11pm.
Boardmasters is a popular annual music festival that first began in 1981 as a surfing championship. Over the years, it has grown to become one of the UK’s biggest celebrations of music, surf and skate culture. Held at the stunning Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay in the summer, the event is hugely popular with locals and tourists, with thousands of visitors attending each year from all over the world.
