'I drew Tom Cruise and he asked to meet me' – Essex artist

Fetching a chance to meet an A-lister could be a dream come true for many, and for a UK-based artist, it was nothing less than a surreal experience. Wilf Elliott, a 21-year-old from Essex, delivered two charcoal drawings of Tom Cruise to the actor himself, and he still cannot believe his luck. Wilf has previously gifted his artwork to singers such as Sam Ryder and Zara Larsson, but sending his craft to an actor of Cruise’s stature was something he did not anticipate.

Speaking about his encounter with the Top Gun actor, Wilf said, “I found out Tom had opened up my artwork on set, and I decided it would be a great idea to draw another one, and then I got a text to say he’d like to meet me in person.” The tattoo artist added that the opportunity was something he doesn’t think he’ll get again in the future.

The talented artist started recreating a scene from Top Gun: Maverick about 18 months ago and was thrilled to know that his artwork had received Cruise’s attention. He said that seeing someone of that stature and someone who knew him before meeting was surreal. He started drawing while being stuck at home during the coronavirus lockdown to keep himself busy.

Wilf’s artwork has also garnered attention on social media from celebrities such as former Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. In an earlier event, Wilf flew to Sweden to deliver a portrait of late DJ Avicii to the musician’s father, Klas Bergling. The artist also mentioned that among many celebrities, he would love to present his art to rapper Post Malone and comedian Jim Carrey.

Meeting Tom Cruise and handing him the artwork was an unforgettable and surreal moment for Wilf, and he will cherish this memory forever
