Sidmouth house teetering on cliff after Jurassic Coast rockfall


Residents in a house close to the Jurassic Coast in Devon were left shocked when they noticed their property was left teetering on the edge of a cliff that had disintegrated beneath it. The property is now only 40ft away from a 400ft drop over the edge and aerial photographs indicate that large parts of the cliffs have fallen away. The region is famous for its fossils.

The East Devon District Council has asked people to stay away from the edges of the cliffs and avoid the area. The area is apparently prone to rock falls, landslides and other such hazards. The South West Coastal Path was already closed due to a cliff fall on October 25th.

James Loveridge, a drone photographer, has captured images of the dramatic incident and shared them on his social media feeds. The photographs reveal the damage between Sidmouth and Ladram Bay. The council has urged visitors to stay far away from cliff edges along the coastline in Devon and to never underestimate the dangers of potential cliff falls.

Cliff falls are natural occurrences that can happen without warning anywhere along the East Devon coast, including areas such as the Jurassic Coast.
