Ben Stokes: Man arrested after burglary at cricketer's County Durham home

England cricket captain Ben Stokes’ home in Castle Eden, County Durham was burgled while his wife and two children were there. Stokes was playing in Pakistan for the recent Test series. Durham Police said that a man from North Yorkshire was arrested overnight on suspicion of burglary. He has been released on bail while the investigation continues.

While no one was physically hurt, several sentimental items were taken, including Stokes’ OBE medal, which he received in 2020 for helping England win the World Cup. The missing items were shared on social media by Stokes, who said that he wanted to catch the people who did this. He clarified that his sole motivation for sharing the images was “not the recovery of material items”.

The police have appealed to anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Stokes also appealed to the public, hoping someone might recognize the items and report the burglary.

It is not the first time Stokes has been in the news off the field. In 2018, he was charged with affray and was acquitted the following year. Stokes has been England’s Test captain since 2022, and his team is scheduled to play in the upcoming Ashes series in Australia
