Holly Newton murder: 'Jealous' ex-boyfriend detained for life

A 17-year-old boy has been sentenced to at least 17 years in detention after being found guilty of the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 15-year-old Holly Newton. Logan MacPhail had stalked Holly for almost an hour before attacking her in Hexham, Northumberland, in January 2023. MacPhail, who admitted manslaughter, was also found guilty of intentionally wounding another youth who tried to stop the attack. The couple had been together for 18 months after meeting at army cadets, but Holly broke up with him. MacPhail turned up uninvited at her home in Haltwhistle on the night before the attack and had to be taken back to his home by police.
