A 17-year-old boy who attacked two students and a teacher with a hammer at a boarding school in Devon has been named by a judge after an order preventing his identification was lifted. Thomas Wei Huang, originally from Malaysia, was detained for life with a minimum term of 12 years after he attempted to kill three people at Blundell’s School in Tiverton. The teenager attacked two roommates, aged 15 and 16 at the time, as they slept, leaving them with severe injuries. He also attacked housemaster Henry Roffe-Silvester, who suffered six wounds to his head.
Huang, who claimed he was sleepwalking during the attack, was found guilty of three counts of attempted murder and sentenced in Exeter Crown Court in October. A High Court judge lifted the order preventing the publication of Huang’s name.
