The A19, a road that stretches from York through various North Yorkshire towns to Teesside, has been named the UK’s best A-road. The A19 received an overall satisfaction score of 85%, an improvement from the previous year’s score of 77%.
Driving on the A19 is praised for its clear road, decent surface and good markings, according to the survey. In fact, many drivers may not realize that they are driving on the A19 when they encounter traffic jams in urban areas such as York and Selby.
Despite the road’s success, bottlenecks still occur in certain areas. The Civic Trust highlights that this further emphasizes the necessity for York to dual its outer ring road as a means to remove traffic through the heart of the city. The survey reaffirms that road users prioritize the maintenance of motorways and major roads over constructing new ones
