Amy Dowden, a star on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, collapsed backstage during last night’s show and was rushed to the hospital. Ambulance services were called to Elstree Studios in Borehamwood after the dancer began feeling unwell. Dowden, who first joined the cast in 2017 and returned to the show in 2024 after missing the previous series due to her breast cancer diagnosis, is now “feeling much better” following the incident, according to her spokesperson.
“We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected,” the spokesperson added. East of England ambulance services were able to transport Dowden to Barnet Hospital for further care after being called to the scene of the medical emergency. With her breast cancer journey garnering media attention in 2023, Dowden opened up about her ordeal with the illness in a BBC documentary Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me, which aired in September.
The now-34-year-old was initially diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May 2023, only a day before leaving for her honeymoon. She was diagnosed again later that year, returning to the hospital in August 2024 for further tests. “It was an exciting new chapter in my life, but finding a lump on my breast changed my life,” she recalled when announcing her BBC documentary. Despite missing last year’s Strictly series due to her health, Dowden was still able to participate in the final’s group dance routine, and this season, she has been paired with JLS singer JB Gill.
After a successful and praised performance in the first live show of this season, Dowden was delighted to have her dance achieve the highest score, securing her and Gill the top spot on the leaderboard. “I’m so happy I could burst,” Dowden stated in an interview after their waltz routine received 31 points from the judges
