M40 driver attacked near Beaconsfield in fake police car robbery

A man sustained serious injuries after his car was pulled over by a fake police vehicle and he was subsequently robbed. The victim was directed to stop in a layby by a car fitted with blue lights following a minor collision with another vehicle on the M40 between High Wycombe and Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire. The victim, who is in his 30s, was attacked by a group of men who stole his wallet, phone and keys. He suffered a broken jaw and eye socket and was taken to hospital following the attack.

Thames Valley Police said that it was appealing for any information concerning the incident. A spokesperson said that after the motorway collision, the man had believed he was being pulled over by a police vehicle, but confirmed that the car was not thought to have had any other police markings. The attackers are believed to have used a red Nissan and a dark-coloured Volvo as their getaway vehicles.

The police have only recently released details of the attack, which happened last Sunday at around 21:15 BST. PC Mollie Dugmore said: “Impersonating a police officer is an offence that we will not tolerate.” The force is asking anyone who has footage of the M40 or surrounding areas from around that time to contact them. The victim has already been discharged from the hospital.
