National Highways has reported there are extremely long delays on a section of the M5 after a lorry was engulfed in flames. Authorities have reopened the motorway in Somerset since the incident on Thursday, but there are still two closed lanes heading southbound between junction 22 at Burnham-on-Sea and junction 23 at Puriton. Despite the reopening of the motorway, the National Highways predicts there will still be long delays of up to two hours compared to other days.
The company that owned the milk powder, Mole Valley, said damage to a tire or wheel probably caused the blaze. The emergency services were immediately informed by the driver. The driver is safe and no injuries were caused during the incident.
