Baby born after mum killed in Burmantofts tower block fall

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that a woman fell from Shakespeare Towers in the Burmantofts area of Leeds and subsequently died. She was in the late stages of her pregnancy at the time, and the child has since been delivered and is receiving critical care. The woman was in her thirties, and there are no suspicious circumstances relating to her death. The coroner has been informed.

The area is full of young families, and Luke Farley, a local councillor, has offered condolences to the woman’s family and reassured residents that there will be a police presence in the area over the next few days. He stated that the tower block had been refurbished four or five years ago.

Shakespeare Towers is a 17-storey block of flats to the east of Leeds city centre, close to St James’s Hospital. The flats are owned by Leeds City Council, which has been contacted for comment.

A resident who was in his flat on the 14th floor when he heard the woman fall has expressed his shock, stating that it was a shock to the whole community.
