A lorry fire on the M25 has resulted in motorway closures that will remain in place until midday, according to a warning from Highways England. Diversions are in place for drivers travelling clockwise on the M25 between J5 near Sevenoaks and J6 near Godstone/Caterham. Westbound traffic on the M26 between J2A near Wrotham Heath and M25/A21 has also been diverted. Crews from six Surrey Fire and Rescue engines attended the fire close to Clacket Lane late on Sunday night. As of shortly after 7am, there was still one engine at the scene, dampening down hotspot areas.
Highways England has warned that the road will require specialist recovery and resurfacing. A spokesperson for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service thanked all staff who helped fight the blaze, and noted that it would take some time to fully extinguish it. The BBC has contacted Surrey Police for further comment.
