Lucy Letby may have harmed more babies in her care, new evidence suggests

New information suggests that more babies under Lucy Letby’s care were harmed, with one even poisoned by insulin. Letby was previously found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others. A document seen by BBC One’s Panorama reveals that a third baby may have been poisoned by Letby. Lab results revealed that the baby had suspiciously high levels of insulin after his blood sugar plummeted. Potentially life-threatening incidents involving infants also occurred on almost a third of Letby’s 33 shifts when she was training at Liverpool Women’s Hospital in 2012 and 2015.

Experts have raised questions about the evidence used to convict Letby in her first trial. However, new evidence shows other sick and premature babies may have been harmed while under her care. Insulin levels in two of Letby’s patients were found to be very high with low levels of C-peptide, leading to the conclusion that the insulin was given to them rather than naturally produced. Panorama’s findings further confirm the suspicions of foul play and call for continued investigation.

Cheshire Police, who are currently investigating other cases that Letby may be involved in, is taking the allegations seriously. The nurse has already been sentenced to life in prison without parole. However, her lawyers still dispute the claims, presenting their own experts that have a completely contradictory viewpoint.

Moreover, Panorama discovered that Letby’s patients experienced incidents that could potentially put them in danger on nearly a third of her shifts. Her career as a nurse raises concerns, and the Liverpool incidents from 2012 are now being examined. Letby’s lawyer believes that the case might be reconsidered, and it is planned for it to be sent back to the Court of Appeal via the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

Reporter Judith Moritz has been covering the case since its beginning. A documentary on Letby and the questions that have been raised about her conviction, titled “Lucy Letby: Unanswered Questions,” premiered on BBC iPlayer. It delves deeper into the case and further raises concerns about Letby’s guilt
