A Skoda driver from Cambridgeshire and a man, woman and two children from Glasgow driving in a Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene after the collision occurred on the M6 Northbound around Tebay services at around 4:04 p.m. on Tuesday. Another child who was travelling in the Toyota was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with serious injuries.
As a result of the crash, the M6 Northbound was closed from J36 to J39 on Tuesday afternoon until early hours the following day. Authorities have asked for cooperation from the public and have warned of potential traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
