Cody Rhodes, the current WWE Champion, has expressed his hopes that WrestleMania will be held in the UK in the next five years. Speaking to BBC 5Live, Rhodes, who is also known as the “American Nightmare”, said that American fans would “go nuts” for the opportunity to attend WrestleMania outside of the US. “There’s some really big venues over here that could host a WrestleMania,” he added. WrestleMania is the longest-running wrestling event in professional wrestling history and is usually held over two nights between mid-March and mid-April.
Rhodes’ comments follow John Cena’s recent statement on the possibility of hosting WrestleMania outside of the US and London Mayor Sadiq Khan’s meeting with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque earlier this year. Rhodes said that Cena’s support for the idea meant it was more likely to happen, adding that he was looking forward to watching the situation unfold.
The son of wrestling legend the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, Cody won his first undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 40 in April, defeating Roman Reigns in a main event match that featured appearances from The Rock and The Undertaker. Rhodes had previously left WWE in 2016 to compete on the independent circuit and with rival-promotion All Elite Wrestling, before returning to WWE two years later to “complete his story” by winning the top title.
While the idea of hosting WrestleMania in the UK is still up in the air, Rhodes’ comments and Cena’s support suggest that it may happen within the next five years. With big venues available in Manchester and London, the event would be sure to attract both American and UK fans of professional wrestling
