Strictly's Wynne Evans 'heartbroken' over 'stupid joke' fallout

Wynne Evans, a star of Strictly Come Dancing, has expressed his sadness following the fallout from a “stupid joke that went wrong” on Saturday’s show. During the performance, there were some moments when his dance partner, Katya Jones, appeared to avoid a high-five and then moved his hand away from her waist. Viewers in the audience noticed it too. Jones later explained on social media, “It was part of an inside joke and we were messing around.”

In a recent interview on BBC Radio Wales, where he hosts a programme, Evans spoke about how he was devastated by the comments that have been made about him since the incident occurred. “It’s not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we’re really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke. It was a stupid joke that went wrong, OK? We thought it was funny. It wasn’t funny. It was totally misinterpreted.” he said.

Although he apologized together with Jones in a video that was posted on Saturday night, Evans still feels that he has not done anything wrong and doesn’t understand why people are upset. Evans and Jones, who performed the tango to Abba’s “Money, Money, Money,” came joint second on the leaderboard on Saturday.

When asked about how he feels after the incident, Evans said that he will always stay enthusiastic about the show even in the face of recent backlash. “I’m absolutely still up for it. I’m having the best time of my life. I just don’t want this to be the bit that people remember,” Evans said. The BBC has not released any statement yet but has confirmed that the show’s welfare team had checked in on the two dancers and that no further actions are planned
