A young woman’s body was recovered from the sea after she fell off a cruise ship near the Channel Islands, according to reports from rescue services. At approximately 2 am BST, the search for the woman in her twenties began around the Les Casquets rocks situated west of Alderney. A French search and rescue service reported that a helicopter crew rescued the injured passenger from MSC Virtuosa from the sea only to be pronounced dead later by doctors.
Police investigations, both UK and French are already underway to determine the cause of her death. In addition to a Guernsey Channel Islands Air Search plane deployed from the site, lifeboat crews from France and Alderney were also on alert to provide aid to the cruise ship. The French helicopter crew based in Cherbourg assisted in the rescue mission as well.
MSC Virtuosa is currently docked at the Southampton port as this tragic incident continues to be investigated. The owners of the cruise ship have not formally addressed the media as of yet
