BBC Weather is experiencing a data fault which is causing incorrect forecasts to be displayed. The issue is affecting both the website and the app. There are graphics displayed of estimated wind speeds that are far in excess of any genuine hurricane, specifically, speeds of 13,508mph in London and 5,293mph in Rome. Overnight temperatures are also being incorrectly reported, with data stating 404C in Nottingham and 384C in New York. Presenters for the BBC have allayed concerns and explained that there is a data glitch between “suppliers and the app/online”, promising that “Folk are working to solve the issue”.
The BBC has acknowledged an issue with a third-party supplier of weather data and explains that it is trying to remedy the problem. A statement issued by the BBC said, “We have an issue with some of the weather data from our forecast provider which is generating incorrect numbers and text on our BBC Weather app and website. It’s mainly been impacting wind readings but some temperatures are also displaying wrongly”. With huge interest from the public on such an important global subject, the problem is incredibly frustrating. The BBC is working hard to fix the issue as quickly as possible.
Some of the graphics displayed are quite startling with winds speeds recorded up to 17,246mph in Edinburgh, 14,398mph in Belfast, and 12,585mph in Cardiff. Similarly, Truro in Cornwall is displaying wind speeds of 16,309mph and 15,227mph in Liverpool. With graphs showing Bangkok with hurricane force winds of 13,491mph and Paris with 13,322mph it is obvious that the data is incorrect. In reality, the UK will only be experiencing rain and drizzle in the south and blustery showers will be experienced in coastal areas.
The UK is currently experiencing gusts of wind of up to 30mph in Aberdeen which is already causing some issues. Warnings have been issued regarding the need for drivers of high sided vehicles to be extra cautious on the UK’s roads. Meanwhile, Hurricane Milton is currently battering Florida, bringing about a climate of tornadoes, floods, and the risk of storm surges. Over 2 million homes and businesses are without power, and there have been reports of a number of deaths across the Atlantic coast. Although there are fears that the remnants of Hurricane Milton could bring uncertainty to the UK, the Met Office states that it is “highly unlikely to reach the UK
