Disguised Sunderland GP admits attempted murder poisoning


A medical professional who injected his mother’s partner with poison, disguised as a nurse, in a row over inheritance has pleaded guilty to attempted murder. Thomas Kwan, 53, administered a toxin that caused a “rare and life-threatening flesh-eating disease” to his victim, Patrick O’Hara. Newcastle Crown Court heard that Kwan disguised himself with a fake beard, moustache, and wig before travelling to O’Hara’s Newcastle home on January 22nd. Despite initially denying the offense, he has now changed his plea and is scheduled for sentencing on October 17th. The accused can expect a substantial prison term, according to Judge Mrs Justice Lambert.

Prosecutors claimed that Kwan went to extreme lengths to disguise himself and prepare for the attack. Kwan, a former GP, reportedly poisoned O’Hara with a toxin after his mother, Wai King, made a will that bequeathed her house in Newcastle to her partner of two decades, Patrick O’Hara. It would only pass to her children if O’Hara died.
