Ammanford school stabbing: Girl took knives to school – court

During a court case, it was revealed that a 14-year-old girl had taken a knife to school every day since she was in primary school. She was on trial for stabbing two teachers and a pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire on 24th April 2023. The girl admitted to the triple stabbing but denied intending to murder anyone. Fiona Elias and Liz Hopkin, the two teachers, and the pupil were rushed to the hospital after the incident.

During the trial at Swansea Crown Court, the girl claimed that she had blades or multi-tools with her since year 3 or 4. She said she carried them because she felt scared and worried at school. The girl said she couldn’t remember most of the incident and that she didn’t intend to kill anyone. She expressed regret and claimed that she would do anything to go back to that day and reverse her actions.

The girl was suspended for five days in September 2023 when a teacher found a knife in her bag. After that, her father checked her bag every day, and so she began carrying a knife in her pocket. The girl denied any intention of killing any of the injured persons, saying she only wanted to hurt them physically.

She explained how she had drawn and written things about the victim and why she did it. The teenager stated that her father allowed her to carry knives, and nobody checked her bag the day of the assault. She also mentioned that she had self-harmed in the past, and the prosecutor asked her about drawings and phrases found in her notebooks.

The girl claimed that she had no faith in the system or the people and, therefore, took the knife with her. When asked by the prosecutor why she still carried a knife, the girl claimed that she felt angry and wanted to vent out that frustration. The trial is still ongoing
