Over the years, some of the most famous British icons have married at the Old Marylebone Town Hall. The venue is a popular destination for weddings, but on Tuesday, the venue played host to a unique and memorable event. One-hundred couples got married for just £100 each at the town hall. The special event was in celebration of the fact that the venue has hosted marriage ceremonies for one hundred years. That’s why some of the happy couples shared their experiences of the day’s events.
One of the standout moments was seeing old-fashion British symbolism blended with the newlyweds. Another unforgettable moment was witnessing the joining of Chris Jamieson-Green and Samantha. Chris had not yet proposed, but had already booked the town hall for the wedding prior to popping the question. He ended up proposing whilst on the Yorkshire Moors, and Samantha was thrilled with the venue choice. Daniel and Danielle Mason say they had a great time and everybody they bumped into in the locale and London as a whole wished them well, and a Pizza Express chef even applauded them.
Among the numerous memorable moments, there was the special canine attendee called Marvin, a prize-winning dog from Marylebone Village’s summer festival, who went viral when pictures of him went viral after he wagged his tail when TV crews caught sight of him. “Marvin was a very good boy,” said Dan McKinley who married Daisy.
All of the couples at the event had just eight guests each and the wedding ceremonies last only 20 minutes. Despite this, the uniqueness of the day was not lost on anyone. Everyone at the venue looked like they were having a wonderful time. Harry Grindrod, for example, went from his ceremony straight to a trip to Brussels.
The day was summed up flawlessly by newlywed Thomas Mackintosh, who said he felt like a celebrity. “My BBC colleagues and newspaper reporters interviewed us while photographers asked us to pose alongside the other couples,” he said. “It was just crazy.
