Human remains found under St Mary's House patio in Hemel Hempstead


An alarming discovery was made by builders at a sheltered housing site in Hemel Hempstead when they found human remains buried under the patio. After the discovery, Hertfordshire Police was called to the location to investigate further. The officers mentioned that the remains were “very old” and the identity of the person is under investigation. The Abbeyfield Society, the organization that manages the sheltered housing site, shared that the remains were considered to have been there for many, many years.

Pending further investigations, building work has been put on hold at the site. The building has an interesting history. It dates back to the 18th Century and was initially a house with attached stables. Later it was transformed into flats and bungalows. Presently, it is a sheltered housing site catering to seniors of age 55 and above.
