On Wednesday, a taxi collided with a group of pedestrians in Glasgow, resulting in three individuals being taken to the hospital by ambulance. The crash involving a black cab took place at 1:50 pm in the city’s Union Street. Footage of the aftermath shows plastic sheets being installed while the injured were immediately treated at the scene.
The fire department has also been called to assist at the junction with Gordon Street. According to police reports, a fourth person self-transported to the hospital with less serious injuries than the others. At this time, the condition of those injured is not immediately known.
As a result of the accident, road closures are in place, and people are advised to stay away from the area. The cab remained at the scene on a paved area at the junction while the authorities investigated the circumstances of the collision.
Police Scotland have made a statement regarding the crash, stating that: “Around 1.50 pm, we attended a report of a crash involving a taxi and three pedestrians on Union Street, at the junction with Gordon Street, in Glasgow City Centre.” There are road closures in place on Union Street, Renfield Street, and St Vincent Street. Additionally, Gordon Street is open to pedestrians exclusively.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has also commented on the incident, saying that “We received a call at 1.55 pm to assist partners in Union Street in Glasgow. Operations control mobilised two appliances and a specialist resource to the scene. We have now left the incident.” It is yet to be determined whether the driver of the cab was injured or not, and further investigation is needed to determine the cause of the collision
