A 35-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an acid attack on a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy outside a school in west London. The incident, which happened on Monday afternoon, has left the girl with potentially life-changing injuries, while the boy and a member of staff who tried to help were also hurt. The suspect has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is in custody. Witnesses said “a lone man” threw a substance at the teenagers before fleeing on an electric scooter along Harrow Road.
The girl’s father, Corey McFarlane, said that she has undergone surgery and was initially released from hospital before being readmitted. “Words could not express the shock, pain, and trauma” his daughter is going through, added McFarlane. He thanked members of the public for donations made via an online fundraiser. He said that the family will now leave the area, which has become “necessary due to our circumstances”.
Detective Superintendent Scott Ware said that officers would “maintain a visible policing presence outside the school”. The attack had “clearly had a significant impact on those in the local community and we are doing everything we can to provide answers and bring those responsible to justice,” added Ware
