Phillip Schofield, the ex-television presenter who publicly admitted to having an affair with a younger colleague and lied, has made a comeback after nearly 15 months of silence. He recently participated in Channel 5’s Cast Away, in which he was deserted on a Madagascan island for ten days and forced to fend for himself.
During the first two of the three episodes, the 62-year-old former This Morning host discussed his career and personal life, his coming-out as gay in 2020 on Instagram, and subsequent discussions with co-host Holly Willoughby. Schofield’s family was also featured prominently, with his wife, Stephanie Lowe, and two daughters, Molly and Ruby, making appearances during an island barbecue.
Schofield spoke candidly about his battles with suicidal thoughts, admitting that he considered ending his life at one stage. He expressed gratitude to his daughter Molly for persuading him to refrain from doing so. During his tenure with ITV, Schofield experienced several low times, including skipping a queue with Willoughby to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II during her lying-in-state, which provoked a public backlash.
Schofield opened up about his outrage at his forced resignation and how his former management agency had allegedly discarded him at his lowest point. Despite his bleak prognosis, he chose to appear on Cast Away to discuss his life fully. Schofield stated that this would be his final TV appearance
