Dame Esther Rantzen pays tribute to BBC star Chris Serle


Chris Serle, a beloved former BBC presenter, has passed away at the age of 81. Serle worked as a radio and TV presenter throughout the 80s and 90s, gaining fame on consumer affairs programme That’s Life! alongside Dame Esther Rantzen. His family confirmed his death on Monday and paid tribute to the “funny, clever and charming” presenter who was a “familiar and cherished figure on British television screens throughout the 1970s and 1980s”.

Dame Esther Rantzen also paid her respects, describing Serle as a “versatile presenter” who was just as nice off camera as he was on it. Slapstick Festival, who Serle had supported for 20 years, also expressed their sorrow at his death. Serle chaired Radio 4’s Pick of the Week and hosted a long-running afternoon show on BBC Radio Bristol. His family said details of his funeral and memorial service would be announced at a later date.
