The currently named Cherry Red Records Stadium, which is home to AFC Wimbledon, has been forced to cancel their scheduled match against the Newcastle United club due to the extensive flooding throughout the venue. Not only were the playing grounds submerged with water, but the pitch was made even more unusable due to a sinkhole that appeared to have formed during the flooding.
Unfortunately for AFC Wimbledon, the significant damage to their stadium means that it has had to remain closed until the necessary repairs have been carried out. However, the game against the Newcastle United team has not been cancelled completely, as they have managed to reschedule the match to take place on the 1st of October, although it will now be played at the visitor’s stadium – St James’ Park.
This news has been a huge disappointment for AFC Wimbledon fans, as they have been eagerly anticipating the match and were looking forward to hosting Newcastle United on their home pitch. However, despite their disappointment, the club and its supporters have remained incredibly resilient and optimistic about the future of their stadium.
The management at the Cherry Red Records Stadium are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that all damages caused by the flooding and sinkhole are repaired efficiently and effectively. Hopefully, the new schedule for the postponed game will give them enough time to prepare for the upcoming match and get their stadium back to its normal working condition
