Merseyside Police have reported that Philip Dooley, a Liverpool fan, was killed in Italy after being knocked down by a vehicle in the early hours of Tuesday. Dooley had travelled to Italy to watch Liverpool play against AC Milan in the Champions League. Witnesses to the accident are also helping Italian police with their investigation. Liverpool players paid tribute to him by wearing black armbands during the match, with representatives from both sides placing flowers at his seat. The club also released a statement expressing their sadness at the loss.
Liverpool FC commented: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of our supporter Philip Dooley, following a road traffic accident in Bergamo. The thoughts and prayers of everyone connected to the club are with Philip’s family, friends, and fellow supporters at this extremely difficult time.” The spokesperson for Liverpool FC also stated that the staff in Milan are working with local police and consulate to support other impacted fans.
Dooley was a lifelong Liverpool fan and had travelled to Italy to support his favourite team. The club and the fans have mourned his death, and expressed condolences to his family and friends
