Bradford, the UK City of Culture for 2025, has unveiled a year-long programme of events to showcase the city’s rich and diverse talents. The lineup includes music, art, theatre, outdoor events, and exhibitions celebrating the Brontë sisters, David Hockney, and local heritage.
The 2025 Turner Prize will be hosted at Bradford’s Cartwright Hall art gallery. The renowned prize rivals the contemporary art scene in London and has previously been held in cities such as Liverpool and Glasgow.
The rich cultural mix of Bradford will be celebrated in the music performances with orchestration to celebrate brass bands, South Asia music, and other challenging performances to capture the young minds of the city. Zayn Malik, Bradford’s ambassador and former One Direction star, expressed his strong bond with the city and the enthusiasm with which the world will now celebrate its upcoming year of culture.
On the subject of art, local celebrity David Hockney, regarded as one of the greatest British artists, will invite people of all ages across the UK to take part in a drawing project to reflect our everyday lives. The projection will be a doorway to take up art in everyday life, an initiative to democratize art and creative expressions.
Bradford, which has one of the youngest populations in the UK and most diverse communities, was chosen as the 2025 UK City of Culture ahead of county Durham, Southampton, and Wrexham.
