Kate says she has completed chemotherapy treatment

In a recently released video by Kensington Palace, the Princess of Wales has revealed that she has completed her course of chemotherapy. The highly personal video shows a visibly relieved Catherine, who had earlier revealed in March that she was undergoing cancer treatment, largely withdrawing from public engagements throughout the year as a result. Although she has indicated that she will carry out a few engagements this year, possibly including Remembrance events and her annual Christmas carol concert, she has described this year as being “incredibly tough” as it has brought her face to face with her vulnerabilities.

In the video filmed in autumnal Norfolk, Princess Catherine of Wales describes her experience of cancer as “complex, scary and unpredictable”. She says that despite the tough times she has been through, she has a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life. However, although the update on Catherine’s health indicates progress, there is still a long road ahead, and Kensington Palace has indicated that it is not possible at this stage to say whether she is cancer-free.

Catherine’s health problems started in January when she was hospitalised for a type of abdominal surgery that was not specified. In March, she revealed in a video message that she was receiving treatment for cancer and that she would need privacy while she underwent recovery. Although her first public appearance of the year was in June at Trooping the Colour, she had earlier issued a personal statement of cautious optimism expressing that she was “not out of the woods yet” and had “good days and bad days” with her cancer treatment.

While palace sources have indicated that Catherine is expected to return for a modest number of visits, including potentially the annual Remembrance service at the Cenotaph, they emphasise that she still needs to focus on her health for the next few months as the path to full recovery is a long and challenging one. The video sends a positive message, not only about Catherine’s progress on the road to recovery but the resilience of an individual who has faced an upheaval in her life in the toughest way imaginable
