Jeremy Kyle guest distraught after show, inquest hears

An inquest into the death of Steve Dymond, who took a fatal overdose after appearing on The Jeremy Kyle Show, has heard evidence from Mr Dymond’s landlady, Michelle Thaxter. Thaxter testified that after recording an episode of the programme in May 2019, Dymond was “broken” and “distraught”. The episode was filmed as he attempted to prove he had not cheated on his partner through a lie detector test. A week later, Dymond was found dead in Portsmouth from an overdose and a heart condition. The 63-year-old had a history of suicide attempts.

Thaxter told the court that she had never seen a man cry as much as Dymond did on the day of The Jeremy Kyle Show recording. Dymond, who had rented a room from Thaxter after ending his relationship with his partner, was focused on getting back together with her. “He absolutely loved her,” said Thaxter, who added that Dymond believed that going on the show was the way to prove to his ex-partner that he had not lied or slept with anyone else.

During the inquest, there were claims made that Jeremy Kyle had dismissed Dymond’s concerns, telling him to “grow up” and “I wouldn’t trust you with a chocolate button,” according to footage shown at the inquest. However, Kyle countered that he had tried to ‘de-escalate’ the conflict between Dymond and his partner.

A statement given to the inquest by Thaxter’s son, Sam Kendall, revealed that, according to Dymond, the show’s producers told him that he might have failed the test because he had a heavy cold. In a key clip shown at the hearing, the Jeremy Kyle Show audience gasped in shock as the results of the lie detector test were revealed. The case continues.
