Woman and child die at property in Cornwall

An investigation has been launched by the police into the unexplained deaths of a mother and child in Cornwall. The Devon and Cornwall Police were called by the ambulance service on Saturday at 10:10 BST regarding the welfare of two individuals in the Bodmin area. Emergency services then attended the Fletchersbridge property and attempted to resuscitate the woman and child, who were later declared dead at the scene. The police have stressed that the deaths are currently being treated as unexplained and the investigation aims to establish what events preceded the tragedy.

“Tragic and incredibly sad” is the description of the incident given by Detective Inspector Neil Blanchard. He has made it clear that this is an isolated incident and that none of the public need fear for their safety at this time. The next of kin of the deceased have been informed and are currently receiving support from trained officers.

The investigation will include forensic experts carrying out a full examination of the scene, as well as interviews with any individuals who may have information relevant to the case. In addition, the police are making an appeal to the public for information or CCTV footage residents may have of the area around the weekend.

The circumstances surrounding the case remain a mystery as investigations are ongoing. As more information is discovered, the police will release periodic updates to the public on their findings. Cornwall Council’s social care and safeguarding teams are also offering assistance to the police during the investigation
