Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Gething was responsible for Wales’ impressive roll-out of vaccines, although this was not enough to erase the controversies surrounding his tenure as first minister.

Looking to the future, questions remain whether Gething will face a recall to the Covid inquiry over the leaked text messages or, given his history, whatever he decides to do after 2026 will initially attract similar levels of attention.
