The search for Jenny Hastings, the wife of former Scotland rugby player Scott Hastings, has come to a tragic end as a woman’s body was found in the Hound Point area of South Queensferry. Although formal identification has yet to take place, the family has been informed. She went missing on Tuesday while at a wild swimming spot called Wardie Bay, near Edinburgh. HM Coastguard was alerted to a “report of concern” and several lifeboats and helicopters were deployed in the search. Hound Point, where the body was found, is about five miles (8km) to the west of where Mrs Hastings went missing.
The Hastings family stated that she had “struggled with her mental health for a number of years.” The statement continued, “The Hastings family are absolutely heartbroken. Jenny and Scott have a huge following of friends from all walks of life including those that work in the media and we ask that at this moment in time we are allowed to grieve privately with family members.” The couple had previously championed a charity campaign to improve people’s mental well-being by encouraging them to stay active. The 100 Streets challenge was launched to promote exercise with friends.
Jenny Hastings, 60, had opened up about her battles with mental health issues in the past. She disappeared for 36 hours from the couple’s Edinburgh home in March 2017 while suffering from depression and walked for miles to the Pentland Hills before eventually getting help when she entered a police station. She praised the officers for their support and later spoke openly about the incident. Scott Hastings won 65 caps as a center for Scotland from 1986 to 1997. He is the younger brother of former Scotland rugby captain Gavin Hastings.
Police said that there did not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding Mrs. Hastings’ death. They also confirmed that a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal. The family has requested that their privacy is respected during this difficult time
