In the men’s semi-final at the US Open, British player Jack Draper lost in a dramatic match to world number one Jannik Sinner. Draper, who is 22 years old and ranked as the British number one, was defeated 7-5 7-6 (7-3) 6-2 in New York. Despite causing problems for Sinner in the first set, the match became more physical in the second set, and a struggling Draper vomited on court. As a result, he was unable to inflict enough damage on Sinner’s serve, and the third set spiralled out of control for Draper.
After the match, Sinner acknowledged the physicality of the game and praised Draper’s performance. Sinner is aiming for the second major title of his career, and will face either Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe in the final. Meanwhile, Draper’s arrival in the semi-finals represents a breakthrough for the player, who has won his first ATP title, become Britain’s leading player, and reached a Grand Slam semi-final for the first time.
